The British Ecological Society (BES) Annual Meeting represents the pinnacle of ecological research conferences, drawing over 1,200 delegates from more than 50 countries. This year’s event scheduled on 10-13 December, 2024 in Liverpool, continues the society’s tradition of bringing together leading researchers, practitioners, and innovators in the field of ecology.

At this year’s conference, the BioDT project holds a poster presentation by Simon Rolph from the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. Scheduled for Thursday, December 12th from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM in Hall 2A, the poster (B17.10) explores the application of digital twin technology to ecological research. The presentation delves into the project’s prototype digital twin focused on cultural ecosystem services in the Cairngorms National Park, highlighting both the transformative potential and current challenges of digital twin approaches in biodiversity monitoring and management. By showcasing the complex interactions between technological innovation and ecological understanding, BioDT aims to demonstrate how digital twins can become crucial tools for identifying environmental impacts, developing mitigation strategies, and supporting ecological decision-making.
